What is Mathspace?
Mathspace is an online mathematics education package. Schools, students or individual users can log on and get access to more videos than Khan Academy (almost 5000 at the moment), online maths lessons, worked examples and Geogebra widgets to aid understanding
Once a student understands, then they get access to over 15,000 separate questions that can be used many, many times to help ensure practice makes perfect.
Why is it different?
There are a pile of websites that offer videos and online exercises. Many go on to offer worksheets or their online equivalent - multiple choice or single answer questions that are marked automatically. some even become adaptive, looking at the previous answer to deliver the next.
Mathspace is different. Uniquely, we ask students to enter each step of their working out and reasoning. We check it immediately, and so give students immediate feedback - formative feedback that helps them decide on their next steps. Our adaptive platform looks at the steps students take as well. Not just the final answer.
All of this information is available to teachers. Fancy dashboards are all well and good, but if all they tell you is the percentage right or wrong, well, why bother! In fact, not asking students to show their working out could impair their own ability to do maths.
